The second largest principal city in the Washington D.C. Metro area, Arlington Virginia is on the south side of the Potomac river directly across from D.C. Arlington’s close proximity to our nation’s capital makes it the home of many federal departments and agencies including the TSA, DEA, and Department of Defense. Several prominent government affiliated organizations are also located in Arlington including contractors such as Lockheed Martin. The large number of concentrated government and private sector jobs in Arlington gives it the lowest rate of unemployment in Virginia, with Bloomberg stating that Arlington is relatively “recession proof.” Half of all jobs in Arlington have been identified as “strong industries”. As a result, Arlington is one of the wealthiest areas in the nation by median household income which is $94,876. Arlington also has the lowest rate of unemployment in the state of Virginia at 4.2% which is far below the national average. Arlington was intentionally designed in clusters of residential areas called urban villages which are conveniently centered around D.C. transit stations. Convenience, close proximity to D.C., a healthy job market, and low crime rates are all excellent reasons to rent to own in Arlington. NeighborhoodsThe neighborhoods in Arlington were built with mixed-use and pedestrian travel in mind for transit-oriented development. Most neighborhoods are linked and easily traversed, yet distinct from one another with their own town centers. Arlington received the National Award for Smart Growth Achievement from the EPA as a result. Crystal City is an urban environment with office buildings and residential high rises, while Aurora Heights is more of a suburban section with a lovely mix of old and new single family homes with high market values. Arts and EntertainmentArlington hosts many national monuments and memorials including Arlington National Cemetery, the Marine Corps War Memorial, and the United States Air Force Memorial. Arlington’s close and easy access to D.C. also make it ideally situated for one to enjoy the many opportunities available in the Capital including the numerous free museums on the National Mall, tours of famous landmarks, and major events and concerts at the John F Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.
